Warm-Up Drill - Coordination and Dribbling
This warm-up drill is designed to get players moving with a combination of coordination and dribbling exercises. Great for activating their footwork, balance, and ball control, this drill also sets the tone for focus and technique before moving into more intensive parts of the session. It’s a fun, simple drill suitable for players of all ages, especially youth players.
Key Coaching Points:
Body Control: Emphasize light, controlled movements during coordination work to maintain balance.
Close Control: Encourage players to keep the ball close when dribbling, using soft touches to navigate through cones or markers.
Eyes Up: Players should scan the field as they dribble to build awareness.
Foot Variability: Use both feet for dribbling and different surfaces of the foot (inside, outside, sole).
Rhythm: Keep a steady, rhythmic pace to activate muscle memory and prepare for the session.
Progressions:
Increase Speed: As players get comfortable, encourage them to perform each action at a quicker pace.
Add Moves: Incorporate simple dribbling moves (e.g., step-overs, scissors) to add variety and challenge.
Combine Actions: Add coordination steps before or after dribbling to simulate transitions in play.
Timed Rounds: Set a time limit for each station to encourage faster movement and intensity.
Questions for Players:
Are you maintaining control while moving quickly?
Are you aware of your surroundings?
Are you using both feet and changing surfaces?
How can you adjust your body to stay balanced and controlled?
