PASSING DRILLS

Setup:
Use a square grid (size depending on player skill level) with a smaller square inside.
Players are positioned at each corner of the small square.
The drill begins with one player passing the ball "up" to the player across from them (opposite corner), "back" to the player who passed the ball, and finally "through" to the last player to complete the cycle.
Players follow their pass to the new position.
Objective:
Develop the ability to execute the "up-back-through" passing pattern.
Focus on improving passing speed, body positioning, and first-touch technique.
Encourage players to execute the sequence with precision and awareness, ensuring that they are in the right position for each touch.
Key Coaching Points:
Good passes: Ensure that the passes are firm and accurate, especially when moving the ball quickly in tight spaces.
Body position: Players should be aware of their body positioning when receiving the ball, keeping their body open to move quickly to the next pass.
Fake before receiving: Encourage players to use fakes or subtle movements before receiving the ball to create space and make the pass easier.
Speed of execution: The pace of the drill should be fast to replicate game scenarios where quick passing is critical.
Questions to Ask:
How can you ensure that your passes remain sharp and accurate, even when under pressure?
Are you using your body position to make receiving the ball easier, or could you adjust it for better control?
How can faking movements help you gain time or space before receiving the ball?
How can you increase the speed of execution while maintaining accuracy in your passes?
This drill emphasizes passing quality, timing, and movement, making it highly effective for improving technical skills in a team-oriented environment.
