10/23/20242 min read

Setup:

  • A half-pitch setup with mannequins simulating defenders.

  • Midfielders positioned in central and half-space zones for passing options.

  • Strikers rotate through sequences after completing all variations.

1. One-Touch Behind the Line

Sequence:

  • An attacking midfielder passes to the striker.

  • The striker plays a one-touch pass back and immediately runs behind the defensive line (mannequins).

  • Midfielder delivers a through ball, considering the offside rule.

  • Striker takes one touch to control and another to finish on goal.

Focus: Movement timing, awareness of offside, and finishing precision.

2. Two-Touch Turn and Finish

Sequence:

  • A second midfielder delivers a ball to the striker positioned in the half-space with their back to the goal.

  • Striker uses the first touch to turn and the second touch to shoot.

Focus: Back-to-goal play, quick turning, and sharp shooting.

3. One-Touch Finish at the Post

Sequence:

  • Immediately after finishing the second sequence, the striker sprints to the near post.

  • A teammate delivers a pass from the wing, and the striker finishes with a one-touch shot.

Focus: Movement to the ball, positioning, and precision in one-touch finishing.

4. Two-Touch Finish from Opposite Half-Space

Sequence:

  • The striker moves to the opposite half-space and receives a pass from a midfielder.

  • Takes the first touch to prepare and the second to shoot on goal.

Focus: Balancing precision and power, adapting to passes from different angles.

5. One-Touch Finish from the Far Post

Sequence:

  • The striker completes the fourth sequence and moves quickly to the far post.

  • A teammate delivers a low-driven cross from the wing for a one-touch finish.

Focus: Quick recovery, positioning for crosses, and executing under time pressure.

Key Coaching Points:

  • Movement: Striker should time runs carefully to avoid offside and ensure optimal positioning.

  • Technique: Emphasize controlled touches for preparation and quick, accurate finishes.

  • Awareness: Striker must constantly scan the field to anticipate passes and defenders.

  • Variety: Encourage diverse finishes (inside foot, laces, volleys) depending on the ball's position and speed.

Progression Options:

  • Add live defenders for increased pressure.

  • Vary passing angles or introduce aerial crosses.

  • Place target zones in the goal for precision-focused finishing.

This dynamic drill builds essential striker skills, fostering versatility and confidence in front of goal.
