Speed with the ball

WARM UPDRIBBLING

Setup: Field Layout: Designate a running track that spans 10-15 meters between two teams. Each end has a small goal set up where players can shoot. Teams: Divide players into two teams, positioned at opposite ends of the track.

Objective:The main objective is to train dribbling speed and control under pressure, as well as endurance and defensive chasing skills.

Drill Description:Start: One player from the first team begins by dribbling towards the small goal at the opposite end. Shoot and Chase: After shooting at the goal, the player must quickly run around a predetermined area to give the next player from the opposing team a slight head start with the ball. Chase and Tag: The original player must then chase the opponent and try to tag them before they can shoot at the opposite goal. Consequence: If the chaser tags the dribbler before they shoot, the dribbler performs 5 push-ups. If the dribbler successfully shoots without being tagged, they are 'safe.'

Key Coaching Points: Dribbling Skills: Encourage players to control the ball at high speeds and keep it close to their feet. Speed and Agility: Focus on quick turns and sprints after shooting to catch up with the opponent. Endurance: Maintain high-intensity efforts throughout the drill, as players must recover quickly during their rest periods. Defensive Effort: Teach players to use speed and smart running paths to catch the dribbler.

Progressions: Increase Difficulty: Reduce the head start given to the opponent or increase the number of laps required before shooting. Skill Challenges: Require players to perform specific dribbling techniques or maneuvers before they can shoot.

Rest and Duration: Each round should last no more than 3 minutes, with 3-4 rotations per player. Provide sufficient rest between series to allow for maximum effort during each run. This chasing game not only enhances dribbling and defensive skills but also improves overall physical conditioning and competitive spirit among players.
