Simple Passing Square with Combinations
Organization:
Create a 15x15 meter square with four cones marking the corners.
Position two players at least at each cone.
Use one ball to start.
Instructions:
Basic Passing: Players pass the ball clockwise or counterclockwise around the square, focusing on clean, accurate passes.
One-Twos: When a player receives the ball, they perform a quick one-two combination with the next player before passing to the following cone.
Third-Man Combination: Introduce a "third-man combination" where Player A passes to Player B, who lays it off to Player C (the third man) moving into space.
Progressions:
Add a second ball to increase intensity.
Limit touches (e.g., 2-touch max) to work on control and quick decision-making.
Rotate positions after each round.
Key Coaching Points:
Communication: Players should call for the ball and signal movements.
Body Position: Stay open and side-on to receive passes efficiently.
Timing: Ensure one-twos and third-man runs are well-timed to maintain flow.
Accuracy: Pass with proper weight and direction.
Variations:
Add defenders to create pressure.
Increase or decrease the square size based on players' skill levels.
This drill is excellent for improving passing, movement, and game-like combinations.
