PASSING DRILLS

This simple passing drill focuses on building quick decision-making, precise passing, and movement coordination through combinations like one-touch passing, one-twos, play-backs, and overlaps. The setup is ideal for developing rhythm, timing, and accuracy, especially in tight spaces where players need to adjust their positioning and execute quick passes.
Key Coaching Points:
One-Touch Passing: Emphasize sharp, accurate one-touch passes. Encourage players to adjust body positioning to facilitate clean contact and ensure the ball's speed and direction are controlled.
One-Two Combination: Teach players to move quickly after passing, creating a give-and-go situation. The passer should move immediately into space to receive the ball back.
Play-Back and Overlaps: Practice the overlap by having one player pass to a teammate and run around them to support the play. This encourages players to recognize opportunities to support and continue the attack.
Positioning and Body Orientation: Players should stay half-turned, keeping the field in view to make faster decisions and spot opportunities for passes or overlaps.
Progressions:
Increase Tempo: Once players are comfortable, increase the drill’s pace to challenge decision-making.
Limit Touches: Limit players to one or two touches per pass to encourage quicker play.
Add Defenders: Introduce semi-active defenders to simulate game pressure, encouraging players to use feints or turns to retain possession.
Questions:
"How can you position yourself to make the next pass easier for your teammate?"
"What cues help you decide whether to use a one-two or overlap?"
