Make Overloads In Zone Of The Ball Rondo

This rondo drill focuses on overloading the zone of the ball and creating passing options under pressure. The setup includes one large grid (20x20m), divided into four smaller grids (10x10m each), and a central zone for jokers and chasers. When the ball enters a zone, a joker and a chaser from the central grid enter that zone. The players in the zone aim to make five consecutive passes to maintain possession. Once five passes are completed, they can switch to another zone. When the ball moves to a new zone, a different joker and chaser enter, while the previous joker and chaser return to the central grid. If the chaser wins possession, they attempt to pass the ball to a different zone, causing an immediate role change, with the chaser becoming a passer and vice versa. To increase difficulty, players can be limited to a maximum of two touches, or be challenged to simply retain possession instead of passing immediately. Key Coaching Points: Positional Awareness: Players should focus on positioning to support the ball-carrier and maintain passing angles. Quick Decision-Making: Emphasize scanning, anticipating passes, and recognizing when to change zones. Ball Protection: Players should use body positioning and quick, safe passes to keep possession under pressure. Movement: Encourage constant movement to open passing lanes and create overloads. Role Understanding: Players need to quickly adapt to changes in roles (passer, joker, or chaser) based on possession changes. Progressions: Two-Touch Limit: Limit players to two touches to increase speed and precision in passing. Add Timed Goals: Set a target time for achieving five passes to add pressure. Chaser Pass Back: Allow the chaser, after winning possession, to pass back into the center rather than switching zones immediately. No Passing Requirement: Instead of passing after gaining possession, players can be instructed to simply maintain possession for a set time.
