Drill Organization:
Setup:
Use half a pitch with a goal and goalkeeper.
Create a square shape around a central cone.
Players are positioned at the points of the diamond (and one on the edge of the penalty area as a shooter).
Cones: Set cones as passing/movement reference points.
Instructions:
Players execute a sequence of passes (1-2 touches max) and follow the movement paths.
After completing the combination, the final player receives the ball and shoots on goal.
After shooting, players rotate positions.
Key Coaching Points:
Body Position:
Players must be half-turned to ensure they can quickly pass or move the ball forward.
Passing Accuracy:
Emphasize precise, crisp passes to maintain the flow of the combination.
Movement Without the Ball:
Encourage active scanning and timing runs to ensure smooth transitions.
1-2 Touch Play:
Keep the rhythm quick and sharp with minimal touches.
Finishing Technique:
Ensure the shooter takes a composed touch and strikes the ball cleanly.
Communication:
Players should call for the ball and use clear instructions during the combination.
Rules and Variations:
Touch Restriction:
Limit players to one touch for added difficulty.
Weak Foot:
Encourage players to use their weaker foot during passing or shooting.
Timed Runs:
Add a timer for the combination to increase intensity and decision-making under pressure.
Goalkeeper Challenge:
Rotate the goalkeeper periodically to give everyone a chance to test their finishing skills.
Progression Ideas:
Add a Defender:
Introduce a passive or active defender to disrupt passing lanes.
Dynamic Shooting:
Let the shooter choose which side to finish after the final pass (e.g., low or top corner).
Add a Second Ball:
After the first shot, immediately send a second ball for a rebound or follow-up.
