Finish the Attack & Counter-Attack Transition
Setup:
Field Layout: Divide the pitch into three zones:
Two 20x20 zones for attacking/defending.
One 10x10 central zone for the floater.
Place one goal at each end of the field.
Players:
Zone 1 (left): 3v2 (three blues attacking two reds).
Central Zone: One neutral floater (player Orange).
Zone 2 (right): 3v2 (three reds attacking two blues).
Rules:
Attacking Phase:
Play begins in Zone 1, where the blue team (3 players) attacks the goal.
The red team (2 players) defends and attempts to win back possession.
Blues must try to score.
Defensive Transition:
If the red team regains possession, they quickly play through the floater in the middle zone to transition into Zone 2.
The floater facilitates the counter-attack by connecting passes.
Counter-Attacking Phase:
Upon receiving the ball in Zone 2, the red team (3 players) now attacks the blue goal in a 3v2 scenario.
The blue players in Zone 2 defend their goal.
Time Constraint:
The counter-attacking team has 10 seconds to score once the ball enters Zone 2.
Rotation:
Rotate the roles of the floater, defenders, and attackers after a set time or number of repetitions.
Coaching Points:
Quick decision-making in transitions (from defense to attack).
Use the floater effectively to create numerical superiority in the counter-attack.
Focus on attacking efficiency within the 10-second time limit.
Defensive organization: compact shape and quick pressure to regain possession.
This drill sharpens finishing skills, defensive marking and covering, transition play, preparing players for high-intensity game situations.
