Drill: Warm-Up Phase – Passing with Coordination (U9 and Up)
Organization:
Set up cones as it showed in the video, each spaced 10 meters apart.
Place a training ladder beside the cone setup for coordination work.
Players pass the ball from cone to cone, maintaining control and using different first touch techniques as they make contact with the ball and pass from the cones.
After passing through the cones, players proceed to the training ladder.
Players work on quick footwork through the training ladder (e.g., 1-step, 2-step, or side steps) to improve their coordination and agility.
Once they complete the ladder, they go to the next starting position, ready for the next turn.
Progressions:
Speed Variation: Increase the speed of dribbling or ladder work to challenge players' ball control and coordination at higher intensities.
Weaker Foot Passing: Have players pass the ball back to their teammate using their weaker foot to add difficulty.
Key Coaching Points:
Coordination and Agility: Encourage quick footwork through the ladder, emphasizing light, quick steps, and proper form.
Speed and Control: As players increase the speed of the drill, maintain a balance between speed and ball control, ensuring accuracy in both dribbling and passing.
Coaching Questions:
To the players:
"How can you maintain good ball control while increasing your dribbling speed?"
"What technique can you use to move quickly and smoothly through the ladder?"
"How can you keep your head up while dribbling to improve awareness?"
To the coach:
"Are players maintaining close control while dribbling through the cones?"
"Are they performing the ladder exercises with proper technique and quick footwork?"
"Are players transitioning smoothly between dribbling, passing, and coordination work?"
