Drill: 1v1 Feints Drill with Four Goals (U7 and Up)

Organization:

  • Set up a 15x15 meter area with four small goals, two at each end of the square.

  • Players play 1v1, with one player starting with the ball and he pass and acting as the defender.

  • The player with the ball passes to the attacker and immediately presses to defend.

  • The attacker’s main objective is to execute a feint or dribbling move to beat the defender and score in one of the two goals on the opposite end.

  • If the defender successfully steals possession, they must quickly counter-attack and score in one of the two goals at the opposite side of the area.

  • Rotate roles after each attempt or set a time period for each round.

Progressions:

  1. Add Time Pressure: Limit the time the attacker has to perform a feint and score (e.g., max 5 seconds).

  2. Weaker Foot Use: Restrict attackers to use their weaker foot only for dribbling and finishing.

  3. Smaller Goals: Reduce the size of the goals to make it more challenging for both attackers and defenders.

Key Coaching Points:

  • Feints and Dribbling: Encourage the attacker to use a variety of feints, changes of direction, and quick footwork to unbalance the defender before scoring.

  • Defensive Pressing: Defenders should focus on closing down space quickly, staying on their toes, and timing their tackle or interception effectively.

  • Transition Play: After winning the ball, defenders must transition quickly to counter-attack and score at the other end, promoting fast reactions and decision-making.

  • Decision-Making: Attackers need to decide when and where to perform their feint based on the defender’s positioning and movement.

Coaching Questions:

  • To the players:

    1. "What feint can you use to throw off the defender and create space for a shot?"

    2. "How can you apply pressure to the attacker while maintaining good defensive positioning?"

    3. "How quickly can you transition from defense to attack if you win the ball?"

  • To the coach:

    1. "Are attackers using a variety of dribbling moves to beat defenders?"

    2. "Are defenders pressing effectively and transitioning quickly after winning the ball?"

    3. "Are players making good decisions in both attack and defense?"
