Drill: 1v1 Dribbling with Reaction and Finish Zone (U9/U10/U11/U12/U13)

Organization:

Set up a playing area of 30x20 meters with a 10-meter finish zone at one end and two small goals placed within that zone.

On the opposite side, place a counter-attack goal at the starting point. Players line up at the starting point, and one attacker dribbles toward the finish zone, aiming to score in one of the two small goals.

After the attacker attempts to score (whether successful or not), they immediately transition into defense. The next attacker begins their dribble toward the finish zone while the previous attacker, now the defender, tries to stop them.

If the defender wins the ball, they must counter-attack by shooting toward the middle goal at the start.

The game continues in waves, with players alternating between attacking and defending roles.

Progressions:

Add Time Pressure: Set a time limit for the attacker to reach the finish zone and shoot, encouraging faster play.

Key Coaching Points:

Dribbling Under Pressure: Encourage players to dribble with speed while maintaining close control, focusing on effective 1v1 techniques. Composure in the Finish Zone: Attackers should stay calm when finishing, making accurate shots in the small goals.

Quick Defensive Reaction: Once an attacker finishes their turn, they must quickly transition to defend the next player. Focus on closing down space early and winning the ball.

Counter-Attack: Defenders who win the ball should immediately look to counter and take advantage of the middle goal, emphasizing quick transitions from defense to attack.

Coaching Questions:

To the players:

"How can you use your dribbling skills to beat the defender and reach the finish zone?"

"How can you stay calm and accurate when taking your shot in the small goals?"

"How quickly can you switch from attack to defense and apply pressure on the next attacker?"

To the coach:

"Are players dribbling confidently and making quick decisions to finish in the small goals?"

"Are defenders transitioning quickly and effectively applying pressure?"

"Are players utilizing counter-attacks effectively when they win the ball?"
