Drill: Dribble to Score in Finish Zone
Organization Area: Set up a 30x20 meter field with a 3-meter finish zone at each end. Players: Organize into two teams. Objective: Players must dribble into the finish zone to score by tapping the ball within it. Rules: Only a dribble into the finish zone allows a goal. If the ball goes out, it restarts from the end line of the last team in possession. Key Coaching Points Close Control in Tight Spaces: Emphasize small touches to keep the ball close and under control. Scanning for Space: Players should keep their heads up to spot gaps in defense and find open spaces. Decision-Making: Encourage quick decisions on whether to dribble, pass, or protect the ball. Body Positioning: Focus on players staying low and balanced to shield the ball effectively. Acceleration in Open Spaces: Teach players to explode with speed once they find space to drive toward the finish zone. Progressions Increase Defensive Pressure: Add an extra defender to make the players find creative ways to get past more pressure. Limit Touches: Restrict touches for more advanced players, such as allowing only two touches before they must pass or dribble toward the finish zone. Combine with Passing: Require a minimum number of passes before a player can attempt to score by dribbling into the finish zone. Questions for Players "How can you keep the ball close to maintain control in tight spaces?" "What do you look for before trying to enter the finish zone?" "When is a good time to speed up and drive forward?" "How can you use your body to protect the ball from defenders?" "What factors should you consider when deciding to pass or dribble?"
