5v2 Rondo Drill with Reactive Twist
Organization
Setup: 15x15 meter area with five players keeping possession against two defenders.
Objective: Blue team aims to complete 10 consecutive passes to score a point.
Transition: If the orange team intercepts the ball, they quickly counter-attack towards the mini-goals. After each attempt, roles rotate.
Key Coaching Points
Quick Decision-Making: Encourage players to make swift, precise decisions under pressure.
Awareness and Scanning: Players should constantly scan the area to anticipate the next pass and be prepared for potential interceptions.
Body Positioning: Emphasize receiving the ball on the half-turn, allowing for better vision and quicker transitions.
Transition Speed: Upon losing possession, quickly shift from offense to defense, closing down space immediately.
Progressions
Touch Limit: Restrict possession players to two-touch to increase speed of play.
Increase Pass Requirement: Raise the pass count to 15 for scoring, challenging the possession team’s control.
Add a Defender: Progress to 5v3 to enhance pressure and reaction times.
Questions to Ask Players
"How can you position yourself to receive under pressure?"
"What cues help you anticipate an interception opportunity?"
"How quickly can you react to switch between attack and defense?"
