10/23/20242 min read

Field Dimensions: 30x20m area. Goals: Three goals are used — two small goals and one larger goal. Teams: Two teams of three players each.
One team starts at each end of the field.
Goalkeepers: One goalkeeper defends the large goal.
Progressions: Wave Game: Transform the drill into a continuous wave game where teams continuously switch roles between attacking and defending.
Time Limit: Introduce a time limit for each attack to increase the urgency and intensity. Floater: Add a neutral player who supports the team in possession, increasing passing options and maintaining fast-paced gameplay.
Coaching Points:
Quick Transitions: Stress the importance of fast transitions from attack to defense and vice versa. Players need to quickly switch roles and mindsets as the play demands.
Communication and Coordination: Encourage players to communicate loudly and clearly to coordinate who attacks, who defends, and when to press or retreat.
Defensive Pressure: Teach defenders to apply pressure immediately after losing possession to disrupt the opponents' attacks.
Accuracy in Passing: Emphasize the need for precise passing to ensure the ball reaches teammates effectively, particularly under pressure.
Use of Space: Instruct players to utilize the entire width of the playing area to stretch the opposition and create more scoring opportunities.
Goalkeeping Skills: Guide the goalkeeper on positioning, especially in transitioning between facing shots from different angles quickly.
Questions to Ask Players:
How can you improve your response time during transitions between attack and defense and how to defend while you are alone and wait support?
What are some effective ways to communicate with your teammates during the drill?
How can you use defensive pressure to your advantage in this drill? What strategies can you employ to make your passes more accurate under pressure?
How can you better use the space available to make it difficult for the opposition to defend?
Goalkeepers, what challenges do you face during this drill and how can you overcome them?
